Tips & Tricks: The Wheres and Whats This Week

Hello All and Happy Friday! Next week’s bins are filled with great produce for warm winter meals. There is not a lot, if any harvesting going on in the winter in our state, so if it is NW grown, it was harvested in the fall and placed in storage. The following describes where next week’s items will be coming from:

  • Yellow Onions, Crimini Mushrooms, Parsnips, Pink Lady Apples, Bosc and Anjou pears are NW grown.
  • The Garlic, Leaf lettuce, baby bok choy, Kiwi, broccoli, Mandarins, Minneolas, Chard, Carrots, Yams, & Spinach are from California
  • The Rio Star Grapefruit are from Texas
  • The Fingerling potatoes are from Colorado
  • The bananas, Red peppers and Avocados are from Mexico, and sometimes Ecuador
If you would like to know the specific county or region where a particular item is grown, just send us an email and we will be happy to provide more details for you!

New this week is one of my personal favorites: Red
Peppers. Filled with flavor and zest, these peppers are delicious stuffed, sautéed, baked, or added to just about any type of meal!  And did you know, red peppers have twice the vitamin C content of green peppers? Of all the peppers, these contain the most vitamins and nutrients! Red bell peppers also contain lycopene, which is a carotene that helps to protect against cancer and heart disease.
Delicious and nutritious, red peppers are definitely a treat in next week’s bins! Check out our favorite Red Bell Pepper Recipe!
