Happy Monday and Welcome to the New Roots Organics’ blog! Every Monday, we will be posting an in-depth Produce Report detailing what to expect each week. This week’s produce is looking absolutely delicious! We are very excited for to have banana peppers on the menu! These little chilies are sweet and the perfect addition to salads, sandwiches, side dishes and soups. Like most peppers, banana peppers are high in vitamin C. One serving provides 45 percent of the recommended daily allowance. It also delivers 2 percent of your vitamin A, 1 percent of your iron and half a gram of protein. Banana peppers are low in sodium, carrying only 4.3 milligrams per serving. They deliver 2 percent of the recommended allowance of potassium. Look at their beautiful color!

Another item we would like to give spotlight on is the gold beet. They looked wonderful this morning! Gold beets peak during Autumn. Something you may not know about beets, beet greens are actually more nutritious than the beets, containing twice the potassium and are exceptionally high in beta carotene and folic acid. Beets also have the highest sugar content of any vegetable. Check out this week’s gold beets! They have an awesome color and we are so excited to use them!

We will also be having green onions again; however, you’ll notice this week’s green onions are a little smaller than we are used to. But no worries! We have been assured that they are young, tasty and ready to add to your favorite dishes!
